Critical Vibrations of a 12 1/4″ x 13 1/2″ BHA in a Low Burial Well Field Case
The Dynamic modal analysis allows to drill with safe operating parameters.
The Operator reported hole cleaning issues on the 12 1/4″ x 13 1/2″ section of a complex low burial well.
Without being sure of why this was happening, the Operator dismissed the possibility of formations instability and decided to optimize the drilling parameters. This decision led the Operator to increase RPMs.
However, when increasing RPMs multiple failures in the BHA occurred. The experience forced the Operator to limit RPMs back to the minimum required for optimum hole cleaning. With reduced RPMs, the ROP decreased too and therefore the Operator required DrillScan expertise to analyze possible dynamics issues and solutions to optimize the BHA and drill-string design.
