Casing wear software description

Using our advanced Casing Wear module, you are able to validate that the casing will act as a competent element of the barrier system for the wells entire life-cycle.

Casing Wear is particularly critical in HP/HT wells where casing strings are subject to significant thermal and mechanical loads and stresses.

Casing wear is the removal of material from the ID of the casing while performing drilling, completion and workover operations. This removal is caused by the abrasive action of the D.Pipe tool joint and body.

Using a powerful 3D stiff-string or soft-string model, the casing wear module is able to determine the contact forces against the casing while performing a predefined set of operations.

For each operation, a complete historic of the side forces can be determined. Applying these forces the Hall wear model, as well as a sensitivity analysis on a set of wear factors the following values can be determined:

  • Casing wall reduction % or mm,
  • Minimum internal yield pressure
  • Collapse resistance
  • Location of highest casing wear
  • Orientation of casing wear
