Safety and economics are the first goals to achieve during drilling operations, and are closely linked together. To enhance chances of drilling success, the Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) and the drill string selected to be run in hole are crucial.

Through our BHA and drill string design optimisation unique software solution and experienced staff, we propose to optimize three key points of drill string and BHA design:

  • Wellbore Trajectory Prediction: in order to deliver expected directional objectives, the BHA has to be carefully designed. Stabilizers placement and diameters, Drill Bit Steerability, tubular OD/IDs are examples of BHA design elements which can be optimised thanks to DrillScan expert tools.
  • Vibration Modal Analysis: each drilling assembly has a natural response to vibrations. When resonance is encountered, loss of ROP appears, borehole quality decreases, and BHA may suffer severe damages. The choice of safe drilling parameters will avoid resonance phenomena, and probable operational issues.
  • Mechanical analysis: running torque and drag and buckling simulations with DrillScan unique Stiff String model allows to detect a wide-range of potential mechanical issues of the drilling assembly. Jar placement optimisation, neutral point location, stiffness ratio check, tubular torsional and yield strength limit check and tri-axial Von Mises Stress analysis are parts of the proposed analysis, in addition of Torque and Drag and Buckling results.

Coupled with the planned trajectory, mud properties, planned operating parameters and offset data from previously drilled well, result accuracy can lead to detect potential locked-up Drill String, unstabled drilling conditions, drag potential lock-up situation, jar placement, design flaw, etc…
